The Blue Cornflower

A Global Symbol of Strength and Hope for MND

When you think of Motor Neurone Disease, a flower might not be the first thing that comes to mind. Yet, the blue cornflower has become an enduring symbol for MND awareness across the world.

So then why the Blue Cornflower?

Despite its fragile, lightweight petals and delicate appearance the cornflower is a surprisingly resilient plant that thrives in tough conditions, growing in wild fields and enduring harsh weather. This mirrors the journey of individuals with MND who face immense challenges yet show incredible courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Additionally, the vibrant blue color of the cornflower stands out, much like the efforts of MND organizations around the world, striving to bring attention to a disease that is often overlooked.  This resilient nature echo's the experiences of those living with MND and the strength of the communities that support them.

One Goal. One Mission. END Motor Neurone Disease.

A Global Symbol

The blue cornflower has been adopted by almost all MND organizations across the word as their logo either as the flower itself or the distinctive blue color it gives off. Organizations like,

MND Australia
FightMND
MND New Zealand
MND Singapore
MND Canada
MND Association
(England, Wales and Northern Ireland)
MND Scotland
MND South Africa

All have some relation in their branding to the blue cornflower. While each organization may have its unique approach to raising awareness and funds to battle MND, the cornflower unites them all under a shared mission: to END MND. Its adoption as a symbol helps create a sense of solidarity and a visual representation of hope and persistence world wide.

More than just a flower

The blue cornflower might be small, but its impact can’t be overstated - just like the efforts of those fighting to raise awareness and bring hope to people living with MND. Together, we can ensure that the cornflower becomes not just a symbol of resilience, but also a sign of the progress we’re making toward a world without MND.
