So what is MOVE 4 M.N.D?
Think of it as an online movement club where on the 27th of each month we all get outside for some movement as a way to raise awareness for MND.
I know it will probably take more than a billion dollars to END MND and I don’t have that much saved up just yet so I thought about a different way to try and help - by raising awareness.
When my mum was diagnosed with MND I had no idea what it was, i’d heard of it but i couldn’t have told you anything about it. This was the same reaction i got when i was speaking to others about what my mum was going through - they had kind of heard of it but didn't know what it was.
If someone mentions they or someone they know has cancer, alzheimer's, heart attack / strokes, diabetes, depression, anxiety etc we all generally have an idea of what this means which is AWESOME! But I want to try and bring that kind of attention and awareness to MND.
Why the 27th?
The average life expectancy after someone is diagnosed with MND is roughly 27 months.
So by making our event on the 27th of each month it helps bring awareness to this number and keeps it consistent so everyone can look forward to the day!
How do you join us?
Super easy - on the 27th of each month
Head outside for any kind of movement
(walk, run, stretch, push ups, swim, pilates ANYTHING),
Take a selfie or photo of your movement,
Upload the photo and tag us on Instagram on @letsendmnd
By uploading the photo and tagging us we can
Help bring more awareness to M.N.D
(by at least a few hundred people each time)
Share your movement, along with everyone else who joined in to create a fun community of people who all head out for some movement on the same day each month for a great cause.
Another awesome part about this is you can grab some friends you may not have seen in a while and use it as an excuse to get some exercise in, have a chat and all for a good cause.
My vision for MOVE 4 M.N.D
I can imagine in a year or so from now where we have thousands of people all over the world that come together once a month to, move, share, and unite in the fight against MND. That’s the vision of Move 4 MND: a community-driven movement proving that small, consistent efforts can lead to big change.
What is Motor Neurone Disease then?
M.N.D is a progressive neurological condition that damages the nerve cells (motor neurons) that control muscles, leading to weakness, paralysis, and loss of mobility, speech, and breathing. Over time, these neurons stop sending signals, causing muscles to waste away.
